Computational study of the structural properties of recycled low-density polyethylene

We present a comprehensive model to computationally study molecular structure development in the recycling extrusion process of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and provide initial results versus reported experiments as guidance. Molecular weight distribution (MWD) branching (BD) are modeled by applying combination population balance modeling, method moments pseudo distributions. Special cares have been taken incorporate effects scission crosslinking reactions. Further, effective strategies provided mitigate computational complexity solving equations. The models applied case increasing residence time extruder. simulated MWD recycled LDPE exhibits shift towards lower chain lengths for times up 400s, while higher high MW tail forms. evolution BD during reveals important modifications original virgin with implications derived properties.
